It's only Thursday night, and already the G20 protesters have started damaging businesses around the city. Boston Market, KFC, Baum Boulevard BMW, and even the old Taco Bell on Baum, have all been vandalized, just to name a few. Now this is crossing the line. Who on earth would do anything to damage a Taco Bell? That's just wrong, people. Anyway, It's been weird watching the G20 coverage on the news though. World leaders are congregating in places I used to go for extra credit in high school. It's all just kinda of cool to see, I guess. I could definitely do without the protesters destroying the city, though. Maybe that's just me...

The saddest moment was when the Post-Gazette interviewed the owners of Pamela's on Forbes. A Pittsburgh staple, the restaurant suffered some damage Thursday night. The front window was broken. And worse -- the owners' feelings were hurt. The owners are sweet people who kept saying, "People know we're here for them" and "We just love Pittsburgh. We know this had to be random." Luckily, the Pamela's folks at another location, this one in Millvale, got a visit from Michelle Obama. She had a pancake and a large glass of orange juice. And the Pamela's crew got a chance to smile a bit. I'm just really happy the G-20's over. Now the world knows what we've known all along. Pittsburgh is awesome. Pittsburghers love their city. We don't like anyone hurting it and we don't like people getting hurt. Also, we love Pamela's crepe-y pancakes. (BTW, Michelle was tipped off to Pamela's by her husband, who'd eaten there on a previous visit to the city. Yes we can -- eat pancakes!)
ReplyDeleteVandalizing a Taco Bell is sacrilege!
ReplyDeleteI always wonder: If the riot police were not already deployed, would there have been any rioting? Was the deployment of the police prior to anything going down effectively a means of authorizing things to get out of hand?
